Do 2018 Foresters (and maybe 2017) still have the excessive oil consumption issue?
My aunt is looking at vehicles and has it narrowed to either a Forester or Journey (shivers). She wants safety and reliability. Trying to steer to the Forester, but nervious if it starts gulping oil, it probably won’t be noticed.
Thank you

is it a Subaru?

Not that I am aware of, I would suggest looking at the internet’s and doing some additional research. My outback is on its warranty engine and is burning 1 qt/4000 miles...
There may also be a difference between the 2.0 and the 2.5, the 2.0 being more prone to oil consumption.

most of the complaints are with the manual.
I’m going to try and talk her into test driving a CX-5 and a CR-V.

Yeah, my car is a manual too, I have no idea why the manual cars burn oil and the auto cars do not. My mom has a cx 5 and she loves it.

higher freeway cruising rpm...
Subaru clearly has some issues but honestly, nobody that I personally know that owns one has had issues, (which includes three newer Outbacks, two crosstreks, two Foresters, two WRXs, plus a handful of older Imprezas and Loyals.)

The answer is 3.6R Outback?

I don’t think it’s the RPM, at 75 my car is rolling 2600 rpm in 6th. I don’t bother to down shift until it gets down to 55 or so.

My ‘16 2.5 outback consumes no oil at 40k miles for what it’s worth... Not that that’s much of an achievement...If you’re really worried get the extended warranty.
Worst case sell it for 90% of what you pay for it after 4 years, thanks Subaru tax!

Logic: is subaru? yes, running? Yes, ls swap? Sadly no, turbo? Yes/no. Diagnosis: it eats oil.

My wife’s 2016 Forester doesn’t use excessive oil, but my WRX seems to have found a liking for it
